Being a twin is like sharing a special bond with the closest person to you. They have been together since birth and spent almost every day together. It’s almost like having a live-in best friend who gets you and knows you like nobody else.
Twins spend a lot of time together, which is why this bond is so important and why it is so valuable. We all have been fascinated by the thought of being a twin because it would be cool to have someone that looks like you, or at the least someone who shares similar interests with you.
There are two types of twins, fraternal and identical. Fraternal twins are twins who do not share the same looks (not identical). On the other hand, identical twins are twins who share the same looks.
Sophomore Erick Rodriguez is a twin to his brother Neri Rodriguez. Erick Rodriguez opens up about what he deems is the best part of being a twin.
“The best part of being a twin is that I grew up with somebody and I have a bond that most people will never have or create,” Erick Rodriguez said.
The Rodriguez twins agree on this challenge as it’s something they’ve faced.
“The comparison,” they both said.
“Since kids we were called ‘the twins,’ and we were talked about by who was shorter or who was smarter,” Neri Rodriguez said.
They mentioned that they always get compared to each other even though they don’t look alike.
Both Rodriguez brothers shared that since they are fraternal and not identical, they don’t enjoy the “cool factor” of looking exactly the same.
“We aren’t identical,” the Rodriguez twins said.
Erick Rodriguez also shares what he thinks would be fun to do if they were identical twins.
“I’ve always seen movies where twins pretend to be each other and get away with things, as well as playing pranks on other people,” Erick Rodriguez said.
At MCHS, there is a set of “cool twins” in the sophomore class, Sophia and Daniella Cruz. Sophia mentions her favorite part about being a twin.
“The best part about being a twin is that you always have a friend to talk to,” Sophia Cruz said.
Sophia mentions that with being a twin, an issue arises in the fact that not everything is your own.
“The worst part about being a twin is having to share everything,” Sophia Cruz said.
When speaking to another set of “cool twins” in the sophomore class, Bella and Luci Arnold, Bella mentions her biggest issue with being a twin.
“They don’t let you sleep,” Bella Arnold said.
When it comes to twins, many issues arise from this interesting dynamic, but what stands as a common factor above all else in their lives is that thanks to being a twin, they have someone special in their lives. Someone who understands them better than anyone else and someone you have a really special bond with.
Sadly it’s not all rainbow and sunshine because with this predicament some issues are also created, like in the case of the Rodriguez twins they wish that they were identical twins, or in the case of the Cruz twins where sharing everything can be an issue, and even in the case of Bella where her twin prevents her from sleeping.
Being a twin can have its ups and downs, but overall having a person you can always count on is probably the best thing about having a twin.
