For many students, Christmas is more than just a holiday, it’s a time for family bonding, cherished memories and the joy of giving. The excitement of presents under the tree is just the beginning of what makes this season so special. Christmas brings moments of tradition, from childhood customs to the anticipation of a well-deserved break, making it a time students eagerly await each year.
Like friendships, traditions hold a significant place in creating lasting memories during the Christmas season. The joy of spending time with loved ones is something many treasure, especially when the hustle and bustle of everyday life slows down.
Sophomore Ana Cisneros shares her special Christmas tradition that strengthens her bond with her boyfriend.
“For me, one of my favorite parts of Christmas is spending time with my boyfriend. We have a special tradition of either going on a walk or taking a drive to look at Christmas lights, rating the houses as we go. These moments strengthen our bond, and it’s a simple yet meaningful way to celebrate the season together,” Cisneros said.
Family gatherings also hold a special place in the hearts of students during Christmas.
Sophomore Kassandra Prado explains how the holiday season gives her a much-needed mental break from school.
“My favorite part of Christmas is not going to school because it keeps my mind away from school and studies, and I find peace of mind with it and happiness,” Prado said.
The holiday season also brings a unique feeling of love and warmth, where people feel truly appreciated and cherished.
For sophomore Isaiah Marmolejo, family time is what makes Christmas memorable.
“Spending time with my family really. Gifts are great and so is the special food, but being able to spend time together is really my favorite thing about Christmas. Thinking about each other and putting a smile on everyone’s faces as we indulge in hot cocoa and unwrap presents is what Christmas is about,” Marmolejo said.
Each student enjoys different aspects of the Christmas season, from family time to the excitement of presents. For some, it’s the sights and decorations that make the holiday special.
Sophomore Alison Vasquez finds joy in the holiday’s light displays, seeing the bright decorations as a symbol of the season’s spirit.
“My favorite thing about Christmas is the Christmas light decorations! This is because lights can be very bright and entertaining to see, and they gather everyone’s attention and make people feel better about their mood. Christmas is like the decorative light season because there isn’t a limit to how much light can be used to decorate, and I love that about Christmas,” Vasquez said.
The joy of Christmas lights is just one example of the small, yet meaningful traditions that make the holiday season so special. These festive details, along with the time spent with loved ones and the cherished moments of rest, all contribute to what makes Christmas memorable.
Ultimately, the importance of these traditions and connections cannot be overstated. Whether it’s spending time with loved ones, enjoying festive traditions like driving through Christmas lights, or simply taking a break from school to find peace of mind, these moments create lasting memories. They bring warmth, joy, and a sense of belonging that students cherish during the holiday season. As you reflect on your own Christmas traditions, think about how these shared experiences, like family time, special activities and the simple pleasures of the season, shape your holiday experience and make it truly memorable.
