Valentine's Day is more than just a celebration of romantic love; it’s a time to show appreciation for all the important people in our lives. From exchanging heartfelt cards to giving thoughtful gifts, the day offers countless ways to express love and affection whether for a partner, a friend, or a family member. The excitement of exchanging cards and presents is just the start of what makes this day so special, with traditions that span generations.
Like friendships, traditions play a significant role in making the holiday memorable. While some celebrate with grand gestures, others find meaning in simple acts of love and kindness, making the day feel personal and special.
Sophomore Kassandra Prado shares her view on the day.
“For me, Valentine’s Day means nothing. I treat it like any other day. I feel perfectly normal on that day. It’s cute how people celebrate with their friends, but for me, it’s just a regular day,” Prado said.
The holiday can be just another day for some, offering a refreshing reminder that not everyone feels the need to celebrate in traditional ways. Her perspective encourages us to embrace the day in whatever way feels most authentic.
For others, like sophomore Alison Vasquez, Valentine’s Day holds more meaning as an opportunity to celebrate love with someone special.
“Valentine’s Day is all about celebrating love, whether it’s romantic or platonic. I usually spend it with my boyfriend, Aaron. We eat together at my house and hang out, which makes it feel special,” Vasquez said.
Vasquez enjoys spending the day with her significant other, cherishing the simple but meaningful moments they share. For her, the day is a time to nurture love and connection, whether through shared meals or quality time together.
Sophomore Ruth Davila explains why this day means so much to her.
“For me, Valentine’s Day means a lot. It’s my favorite holiday, and I’ve always loved it. I plan to celebrate with my friend Adrian and my family,” Davila said.” I think Valentine’s Day is special because of the love in the atmosphere. It’s such a romantic day, and it allows me to express my feelings.”
The holiday is all about love and connection, whether shared with family, friends, or someone special.
Teacher Ms. Villalpando shares her thoughts on Valentine’s Day.
“I miss when I was in elementary school and everyone got cards and candy on the 14th,” Villalpando said.
Nostalgic reflections highlight how the simplicity of celebrating Valentine’s Day as a child can feel different from the way it's often celebrated as we get older.
Ultimately, what makes Valentine’s Day so special is how you choose to spend it. Whether you’re with a significant other, friends, family, or on your own the holiday is about cherishing love in all its forms. Whether through small gestures or big celebrations, these moments create lasting memories and bring warmth and joy to your heart. As you reflect on your own Valentine’s Day traditions, think about how these shared experiences shape your celebration and make it truly unforgettable.
