JOCELYN DIAZ: Hi guys! I’m Jocelyn Diaz, your host for today. Karol, Guadalupe, and I will be talking about five sweet treats in this podcast and rating them.
GUADALUPE BRITO: The first sweet treat that we’ll talk about are cinnamon rolls. I personally love them and buy them at Cinnabon in MainPlace Mall. Can you tell us the background on them, Karol?
KAROL CABRERA: Well cinnamon rolls were first made in Greece and have been around for centuries. They’re most likely known for their cinnamon and fluffy-like texture.
DIAZ: There are a lot of variations of cinnamon rolls like the ones with cream cheese frosting and the Swedish versions.
BRITO: Since I buy at Cinnabon, they have a few different types too. They have the Classic Roll, Caramel PecanBon, BonBites, and more.
CABRERA: OMG I’ve tried the Caramel PecanBon before. I’d recommend it if you want to try something new but obviously don’t try it if you’re allergic to nuts.
DIAZ: Luckily for us, my GOAT Guadalupe has brought us some cinnamon rolls for us to eat right now and rate out of 10.
BRITO: I really wanted all of us to eat yummy warm cinnamon rolls so I got a little someone to deliver them to us.
DIAZ: Let’s move onto the ratings now!
CABRERA: I’d rate the cinnamon rolls a 9/10, they’re really good!! You could really taste the cinnamon and the frosting they have is really good too. One thing though is that they’re really sweet which can be too much sometimes. Moving on to Jocelyn’s rating.
DIAZ: I would also give the cinnamon roll a 9/10 because it was really good but it was really sweet and I don’t eat much sugar since it makes my stomach hurt.
BRITO: I would give cinnamon rolls a 10/10, I really love them and love the sweetness of them because I have a sweet tooth sometimes. I was a little sad when I was eating my cinnamon roll though because half of it didn’t even have cinnamon frosting on it. But I think this depends on what store you buy your cinnamon roll from.
CABRERA: Up next we have crepes which Guadalupe will be giving us the backstory to on how they’re made and where they originated from.
BRITO: Crepes originated from France during the 13th century. However, they gained popularity during the 20th century and are now a sweet treat known worldwide!
DIAZ: There’s also many different types of fillings and toppings you can add to your crepes too. For example, they have strawberries, bananas, Nutella, powdered sugar, and cream.
CABRERA: Personally, I’m not a big fan of strawberries so I usually get bananas and Nutella in my crepe. Also, there are some places where they offer you ice cream along with your crepes which is a really good combo and I’d definitely recommend it.
BRITO: I haven’t tried crepes with ice cream in them but they sound amazing. I’ve only tried the regular ones with bananas, strawberries, and Nutella. I thought it was pretty good but I had a little hard time eating it because it started spilling over. Now onto the ratings! I would personally give it a 7/10 because of what I said before. Jocelyn, what would you give it?
DIAZ: I would give crepes a 9/10 because they are really good and I love the mix of fruits and sugar.
CABRERA: I’d give crepes a 10/10 because they’re really good and are one of my favorite desserts to eat. I recommend you to try crepes if you haven’t tried them before.
DIAZ: The next dessert we’ll be reviewing is churros which is one of my favorite things to eat.
BRITO: Churros are a fried pastry introduced by Spanish shepherds that quickly became popular in Spanish cuisine. Portuguese sailors helped spread churros to other parts of Europe, including France and Portugal. Today, there are many varieties of churros enjoyed around the world.
DIAZ: I also know that they sell churros sometimes with fillings like chocolate, caramel, or strawberry. I personally like the caramel filling because I love the flavor and sweetness.
CABRERA: Oh yeah, I like getting churros when they have a chocolate filling. But there’s also multiple ways that churros can be served. Such as mini churros and churro ice cream sandwiches which are churros that are split in half with a scoop of ice cream in between.
BRITO: OMG that sounds really good!! How about we get to the ratings now?
DIAZ: So personally I rate churros a 10/10 because I love them they are so yummy and sugary and I would love to try a churro ice cream sandwich someday!
CABRERA: I agree with Jocelyn! Churros are really good and they’re also another one of my favorite treats.
BRITO: I would give churros a 8/6 because it depends on where you buy them from. Sometimes I buy some and I get disappointed because they’re really hard. But for the most part, they’re good and delicious.
BRITO: Next we’ll be focusing on tiramisu which is believed to be invented in Veneto, Italy.
CABRERA: Tiramisu is made by layering coffee-soaked ladyfingers with a rich mascarpone cheese mixture and a dusting of cocoa powder.
DIAZ: We actually made tiramisu in the lounge a while back. It was really fun to make and really yummy. The only thing I struggled with was when I was dipping the ladyfingers into the coffee because if they got really soaked they would fall apart.
BRITO: I struggled with the part where we were mixing the whipped cream. It felt like a whole arm workout I swear. Even though there were like 5 people, it still felt like an eternity. Anyways, to the ratings!
CABRERA: I’d give tiramisu a 8/10. It’s really good but it can be too overwhelming sometimes because of the coffee. However, the texture is really good and I’d recommend it to anyone who’s a coffee lover.
DIAZ: I would give tiramisu a 9/10 because I like coffee especially when it is sweet and making it in the lounge was so fun and yummy.
BRITO: I would give tiramisu a 7/10 because I don’t really like coffee and when I made it in the Lounge, I put too much Nesquik powder on it. It felt like too much sugar so be careful guys when you’re adding the finishing touches guys!
CABRERA: The last treat that we’ll talk about are açaí bowls! They can be dated back to the indigenous tribes in Brazil. They’re well known for their amazing taste and health benefits.
DIAZ: Some of the health benefits that I’ve heard about are protecting cells and giving the body energy. The bowls do this because of the fruits, fried fruit, and nuts that it includes.
BRITO: I really love açaí bowls, I recommend getting them from Jamba Juice or Blue Bowl. They’re a bit pricey but they’re worth it. If not, you guys can always make it at home easily! My brother learned how to make them and it’s really simple. You just have to buy the mixture for the base at Costco or Target, blend it with milk, put it in a bowl, and add all the toppings that you want!
CABRERA: Some of the toppings that you can add are strawberries, mangos, and pineapple for the fruit. Raisins and apricots for the fried fruit. Not only this but the walnuts and almonds for the nuts.
DIAZ: I’d give açaí bowls 10/10 because I love a mix of the different fruits and the frozen yougurt and they are so yummy.
BRITO: I would give açaí bowls 10/10 too because they’re so yummy with a bunch of different options for the fruit and base. You can also choose what type of syrup for them to add at the top. Anyways, what would you give it, Karol?
CABRERA: I would give it a 2/10 because I’m not a big fan of fruits or nuts. So I didn’t really like the acai bowls. So I guess you should only try the açaí bowls if you’re really healthy!
BRITO: Thank you guys for listening to us rate sweet treats! I hope you guys enjoyed it as much as we did. Our next podcast will be next school year so stay tuned and try out the sweet treats that we recommended if you have a sweet tooth and want something sweet!
