On a hot summer day, you're lounging on a bench by the pool with your friends. Suddenly, the summer heat feels even hotter, and you can't think of what to eat or drink to stay cool. At that point, it’s not about what sounds good, you just need something that will cool you off.
The summer heat can make us feel dehydrated and drained of energy. Refreshing drinks are essential to help keep us hydrated and give us the energy to enjoy our summer break.
Even though there are a lot of summer foods to choose from, it can still be difficult to find something that everyone will enjoy.
Mia Boyzo, a freshman at Godinez Fundamental High School, shares her favorite summer food.
"A summer snack I love to eat is ice cream. I'll never get tired of it, and it keeps me cool during the hot weather," Boyzo said.
Ice cream is a really popular summer treat because it's easy to grab and enjoy on a hot summer day. Gelato and frozen yogurt are also similar to ice cream and can be good alternatives if you're not craving ice cream.
During the summer, we might also want to try new foods that sound delicious and could help cool us down in the intense heat. Boyzo recommends a treat that is easy to make, but also very refreshing.
"I think people should try a mango smoothie at least once; it's really good, especially because the mango makes it so tasty,” Boyzo said.
Fruits are also an essential summer food. They keep us refreshed and have the perfect amount of nutrients in them.
Freshman Roselyn Alas shares her favorite fruits to eat during the summer.
“My favorite fruits to eat in the summer would probably have to be watermelon and strawberries,” Alas said.
Watermelon and strawberries are perfect for staying refreshed, their sweetness and juicy texture make them a summer favorite.
Alas recommends trying out a few new treats for the summer.
"I don’t have a specific favorite, but probably popsicles and other cold treats—they’re really good during the summer,” Alas said.
With summer approaching, now is the perfect time to enjoy refreshing treats before the cold weather returns!
