SANDIE SALAS & KATELYN ALVAREZ: Hey guys, welcome back to two girls and one mic with Sandie and Katelyn.
ALVAREZ: Now that Easter and Lent are over, we are now in the last month before break, which means we’re getting ready for Summer! Today, we’re diving into all the feels that come with the end of the school year, summer dreams, and a few remember when moments too.
SALAS: Yeah, I still find it kinda crazy how freshman year is officially done! Like, we did it. We finally finished our first year of high school.
ALVAREZ: Seriously. Shoutout to late-night cramming, the Johnson Center iced coffee to get us through the day, and our questionable study choices. We made it.
SALAS: Okay, let’s start off with the big question: How are we feeling now that school’s almost over?
ALVAREZ: Honestly? A little exhausted, a little relieved, and kind of… nostalgic already? I already miss freshman year even though it hasn’t even ended, I didn’t expect to miss it this fast.
SALAS: Same. It’s like, the second classes end, I kinda miss the chaos. But also, no more assignments, no more 8 a.m.s, and especially no more tests or quizzes.
ALVAREZ: You mean we’re not just going to vibe with Google Docs at 2 a.m. anymore?
ALVAREZ: Real talk though: what was a high and low of your freshman year?
SALAS: My high is definitely getting my schedule memorized along with what time classes end and start, before I always was checking my phone or my agenda. My low though was definitely the first two days because our schedules were all messed up and I was going to the wrong classes and getting marked absent, it was a lot and it was just a mess.
ALVAREZ: That’s so real. For me, my high was probably making new friends which really expanded my circle, and making a lot of great memories with them, along with you as well, like remember that time when you lost your airpods and they ended up being in the lunch tray you threw away. Luckily, lunch had just ended and we rushed over to the Johnson Center to find it. For my low for this year it’d probably be still adjusting to the environment even though this school isn’t a lot bigger than our middle school..things are just different you know? But honestly, I feel like we learned a lot this year — not just school stuff, like… life.
SALAS: Yes. Like learning how to balance things, speak up for ourselves, and survive off spicy sandwich everyday typa growth.
ALVAREZ: Oh my god, so real, so what’s summer looking like for you? Are you gonna look for a summer job, chill, or somewhere in between?
SALAS: Um, I think a little bit of both. I’m for sure taking the summer school SAC course online because I might go on a little trip. But other than that, I’m pretty sure I’m gonna chill all summer. Hopefully summer goes by slowly so that we can all rest from school every single day and that constant after school routine.
ALVAREZ: I feel that. I’m going to obviously also do the SAC summer course online, hopefully go to the gym a lot more since I can’t go as consistently because of my brother’s schedule, spend more time with family and friends, and overall just chill and have fun, and speaking of trips, me and my family are still planning on what we are going to do for vacation either flying to Canada or taking a cruise. And yeah… chores. My dad probably already made the list for me..but I can’t even complain it’s nice to clean when you don’t have things to do and it’s kinda therapeutic for me you know? And once you’re done you get to see how much better it looks.
SALAS: Yes, I feel you. Just put on an airpod, play the music, and get to it. I also find it kinda relaxing too because you just get to roam around in a nice clean environment and once you finish everything you just get to relax and have fun and enjoy the rest of your summer.
ALVAREZ: You know what I’ve been thinking about lately? Old summer memories — like those super chill, kid summers.
SALAS: Yes. When summer was really all about popsicles, the sprinklers, and sleeping over at grandma’s house. What was your favorite summer childhood memory?
ALVAREZ: Probably when I would go over every summer when I was younger to my grandma’s house and stay over. Everyday we’d either play tennis, hula hoop or soccer together in her backyard. And I’d help her pick avocados, oranges, limes, and toronjas. It was really fun. I’d also help her cook every meal and it was really cool cause I was able to learn a lot. I remember with my tablet I would record us cooking, running around together. We would even catch rollie pollies, and mayates together and I had this like little bug container to keep the bugs in and I would hang it around my neck, and before catching the bugs I’d always pick grass and leaves and add it into the container making a little terrarium for them. To be honest for me those were some of the funnest times for me when I was younger. Everyday was the same…but different and I’d enjoy every moment. What about you Sandie, what’s your favorite childhood memory?
SALAS: Mine was definitely running around through the sprinklers and slip n slides at my grandma’s front yard. I also loved going to the store and buying what I used to call “the summer essentials” like chalk, bubbles and the glow in the dark sticks for when it got dark out. I remember my cousins would come over and we would all grab these and just play around and have fun.
SALAS: Okay, so here’s the fun part, what are we actually looking forward doing this summer?
ALVAREZ: I wanna definitely get my haircut in layers once I’m off from school, as well as definitely lock in for summer, with now having time to go to the gym. Definitely want to try to go thrifting, and hopefully hang out a lot more with my family and friends since I’ll have time. As well as hopefully creating a routine and better myself for the next school year cause I told myself for this year to lock in and I lowkey didn’t…but it’s okay, summer I’ll come in clutch. OH and also trying new matcha and dessert shop places cause you know matcha and sweet treats, and also sleeping a LOT more. What about you?
SALAS: Honestly, same. Although, I would like to do a lot more shopping, go to the beach, eat ice cream every single day, watch some movies and of course sleep more than eight hours.
ALVAREZ: Let’s make a pact to not waste the whole summer doom scrolling or watching the same 3 TikToks on repeat.
SALAS: Deal. But also, if we do end up doom scrolling or watching a bunch of shows in one sitting, we do deserve that sometimes. Finishing our first year of high school is such an accomplishment and we do need some time to relax.
ALVAREZ: If you’re wrapping up your freshman year too — or even just feeling that summer shift — we see you. You did it.
SALAS: Whether you crushed your GPA or barely coasted through, you grew and you changed, and you deserve to celebrate that .
ALVAREZ: So take time to rest, play, reflect — and don’t stress if you don’t have every week of summer “planned out.”
SALAS: Because sometimes the best moments are the random ones. The late-night talks, spontaneous road trips, or even just laughing with your bestie in pajamas.
ALVAREZ: Alright, that’s a wrap for today’s episode! Stay cool, stay kind, and don’t forget sunscreen!
SALAS & ALVAREZ: Thanks for tuning in, this is two girls and one mic signing off. Happy end of the school year everyone!
