Graduating from Middle College High School (MCHS) is a big achievement and a very emotional moment for seniors. Seniors often feel emotional, nervous, scared, or excited about their next chapter. After graduation, there's significant pressure to choose a university and prepare for this new phase of your life,
Seniors have been working hard to finish off the year strong and have been focusing on their finals. Many of them have already planned to take a trip or to apply to a part time job during the summer.
Senior Isabel Mendes shares her thoughts on graduation.
“It feels kind of weird since this graduation is definitely the first actual formal graduation since during 8th grade I didn't really like this whole ceremony or anything because it was during covid,” Mendes said.
Seniors missed their 8th-grade promotion ceremonies due to COVID-19 restrictions. When graduating, you feel these different emotions as you are closing a chapter in your life that you will look back at later in the future.
Senior Leslie Capiz expressed her feelings about graduating and moving on to the next chapter in her life.
“It's bittersweet. I feel like I'm happy, but at the same time, I’ve been sad like this is not going to be my life anymore, I have to be an adult,” Capiz said.
Graduation is a bittersweet moment, marking the transition to bigger and better opportunities in life. Many seniors have planned small gatherings after graduation as a final farewell to this chapter of their lives
“Yeah, I’m planning on going to Mexico for a week and then I’m gonna go see Ivan Cornejo,” Zaldivar said.
Taking a trip or attending a concert can be a way for seniors to celebrate their hard work over the four years of high school, including taking college classes.
“I think I might have a little graduation party, and also I’m going to Disney with my friends,” Capiz said.
Seniors have made plans to have a graduation party or just hangouts with their friends during the summer.
“I’m going to work with my sister at a law firm three days a week,” Zaldivar said.
Many seniors have applied for various jobs and internships. Most choose positions related to their intended majors, which helps them prepare for their future careers.
“Yeah, I’m going to get my medical assistant AA, so I’m trying to look for a medical assistant position,” Capiz said.
Going into university is something new and something you look forward to, but it is also something you want to prepare yourself for.
Joscelyn has shared her struggles of socializing that she had been able to improve on during her high school years.
“Yeah. Socializing is a big problem for me, so I think I’m getting used to,” Joscelyn Novalos said.
Socializing in university can help students meet new people and create many new memories. Many socialize as a way to learn new things and improve on things you may need to work on.
“I have been trying to get myself to stop procrastinating and stuff because I know in college I am going to be by myself because I won't have anyone to be like you need to do this or that,” Capiz said.
When entering a new chapter in life, many people focus on improving aspects they previously couldn't.
“Enjoy your time in high school while you can, do dumb things because you’re young, do it for the plot,” Novalos said.
Each chapter of our lives is important, as we learn and grow with every experience. During high school, you make new friends, create lasting memories, and learn valuable lessons.
