Mr. Camacho: Exposed

Mr. Camacho started working at Middle College back in 2004. He was about to start a job at Santa Ana High School, but when he found out the person who hired him quit his job at Santa Ana High School, he did not want to work at SAHS.  The principal at the time, Jean Williams,  found out Mr. Camacho was looking for a job teaching high school and offered him a job. Before all this, Mr. Camacho worked at Willard; funny thing is, Mr. Camacho graduated from Willard when he was in middle school. He was teaching in the same room he took class in as a sixth grader. Mr. Camacho first started college here, at Santa Ana College, then transferred to Cal State Long Beach where he got his Bachelor’s degree.

On a personal level, Mr. Camacho really enjoys math because you get an element of challenge. Now that he is a teacher, he knows that math is not the easiest subject, but he really enjoys when his students start developing the idea of being challenged, “that is a process that I really enjoy seeing in my class.” He likes it when students walk into his class scared and realize math is not that bad, and they like to be pushed and challenged so that they start to learn more about themselves as students. Besides having his students starting to love math, he likes teaching because he gets to work with his community. “I see myself in a lot of students here at Middle College,” he says. His love for math and the interaction he would have with other people and students is what made Mr. Camacho want to be a teacher. “Everything just kind of clicked when I was taking a math course at SAC. The professor was really an inspiration, was very nice and seemed to enjoy what she was doing, so I was drawn to that.”

Mr. Camacho’s hobbies are reading, spending time with his family, going to the park, staying active.
