Music reviews for april
Cardi B: Invasion Of Privacy
Straight from The Bronx, New York, icon Cardi B comes out with her first album under her new record label, Atlantic records, with a brand new look and sound. The album overall shuffles between pop-rap to designer trap to sing-song ballads with different featured artists like Migos, Chance the Rapper, Kehlani, 21 Savage, and SZA. “Invasion of Privacy” features different topics throughout Cardi’s life; for example, in the last song of her album, “I Do,” featuring SZA, it describes the experience she has had with female empowerment, and with men and her power over them. In the fifth verse of her song, she even discusses how “My little 15 minutes lasting long as hell, huh?” referring to all the people who had doubted her throughout her career. Overall, I give this album a solid 5 stars.
Kali Uchis: Isolation
Kali Uchis, a Colombian-American singer and songwriter, blows people away with her outstanding new album, “Isolation,” her third self recorded album. This album hits a wide range of sounds from reggaetón funk, to R&B, making her a very unique pop artist. “Isolation,” along with her previous albums, discuss various topics in Kali’s life, from romance to self-confidence. Her album features artists like BIA, Steve Lacy, Jorja Smith, and Reykon. Her album also features her hit single, “After the Storm,” a song that features Tyler, the Creator and Bootsy Collins. I highly recommend this album, as it reaches so many different sounds that I am sure everyone will love! Definitely 5 stars.
Nicki Minaj: Barbie Tingz, Chun Li
Finally coming out of the dark since her last feature with Migos on their hit single “Motorsport,” Nicki Minaj is finally realizing some new music of her own, coming out with two singles, “Chun Li” and “Barbie Tingz”. These two singles not only happen to be very catchy with their groovy bass, they also capture Nicki Minaj’s unique girly, poppy sound that reminds others of her talent. What we are hoping now, is that soon there will be an album to follow up with these two new amazing hits! 5 stars for both singles!
The Weeknd: My Dear Melancholy
“My Dear Melancholy” by “The Weeknd” was released on March 30th. Only two weeks after this album released, it has already gained twenty-four million views on Youtube, thirty-eight million listens on Spotify, all while holding number three on the most purchased album in the iTunes Store. This album brings everything there is to love about a Weeknd song: a melodic background, some compelling high notes, and lyrics depicting his drowning sorrow. You should give this album a go.
Rich The Kid: The World is Yours
Dimitri Leslie Roger publically known as Rich The Kid released his third album, “The World Is Yours.” Due to Soundcloud making the album a public recommendation, it has gained more and more listens every day. This album features artists: Kendrick Lamar, Khalid, Future, Quavo, Offset, Trippie Redd, and Swae Lee. His most listened song, “Plug Walk” has become viral online due to a simple gesture of charity. As a man approaches a stop sign while playing the song, he hands a homeless man money, fist-pumps the man, and tells him to dance. The homeless man quickly accepted and danced to the to the beat of “Plug Walk.” With his catchy music, Rich The Kid continues to grow.
Cuco: CR-V, Sunnyside
All the way from Hawthorne, California, upcoming artist Cuco is stealing people’s hearts with his new singles, “Sunnyside” and “CR-V”. Cuco is not only a Latino artist, but he is also a very young artist, only being 19 years old. His music ranges from Spanish romanticas, to R&B and hip hop. His two new hit singles not only perfectly capture who he is altogether, but also captures his low-fi music style. Hopefully an album is lying ahead of us, within these two singles. But for now, you can catch him on tour this spring! His career is finally starting to blow up, and every single keeps him growing.
