The playoffs are meant to determine which National Basketball Association (NBA) team is the best and who deserves to be crowned as the best. There are 16 competing for the prestige of being known as NBA champions. “People always debate who the best player is, but in my opinion, more people should talk about the entire organization rather than a single player,” said sophomore Anthony Piedras. The honor isn’t only for the players or the organizations winning the championships, but also for the fan base of said team. The fans also have to deal with the long season full of ups and downs. That’s why when a team wins the NBA championship everyone in the city comes out to celebrate.
The NBA season is full of trials and tribulations for each of the 32 teams. The team that handles the pressure and randomness of the long season are the team that wins the NBA championships. The challenges of the long season include injuries, trades, shooting slumps, and chemistry issues. These issues occur with all the teams at any moment of the season; some are an easy fix, and other situations having a much more detrimental effect on the team. “That is what makes the playoffs so unique and fun to watch because we never know who is going which team will be happy by the end of the year,” said sophomore Anthony Salas. That is why most fans are content with their team being one of the lucky 16 teams that make the playoffs, because they know how hard it is to just do that.
Many consider the NBA season to be divided into two seasons: the regular season and the postseason. The regular season is often viewed as a fine-tuning period for championship contending teams. However, for the other teams, it is a time to prove your worth and make a statement that you deserve to be in the playoffs with an opportunity to win. The playoffs are when the season truly starts, and we see the very best that the NBA has to offer us talent wise. We see the best players in the world battle it out to see who the best is.
