Winter break is around the corner; what will you be doing?
With winter break approaching, students are already making plans for things they want to do. Some students may travel or visit family while others may choose to just stay home. At home, students might be taking college classes, picking up new interests, or carrying on with their hobbies.
Being a student at MCHS means having to take an intersession college class at least once. Sometimes these classes can become a handful which can lead to some students not being able to fully enjoy their break. Considering the circumstances the school is facing right now with COVID-19, the majority of these classes are online. This can create a more flexible schedule for students, causing less interruptions with their break.
When asked about having an intersession class during winter break, sophomore Vania Perez said, “The class will only be interfering a little because the one I am going to take is fully online.”
Usually winter break is a time when most families gather around for the holidays. Although this year, some traditions might have to be put on hold due to travel restrictions. Whatever the case may be, these families can always find a way to have fun during the holidays.
Freshman John Leon disclosed his change of plans.
He said, “I went to Big Bear and spent time with my grandparents. I have always done this, but I don’t think I will be doing it this year.”
Even if students stay at home, winter break gives ample time to complete tasks and continue hobbies that were put on pause during the school year. Students can begin to organize their rooms, rearrange their schedule, or even do more of the things they love.
Senior Joset Gonzalez said, “Last winter break I just skated and I ate a lot of food. I do this most of the time.”
Finding yourself doing the same thing over and over again can sometimes become a little boring, so why not give something else a try. Winter break is the perfect time to do something different and exciting. Things you try out now can turn into future hobbies. There are countless new things for students to try out such as finding ways to become more productive. This can include trying out new baking/cooking recipes, or even consider getting more involved in your community.
Junior Nicholas Cisneros shared what he did last break.
He said, “Last winter break I spent it mostly at home with my dogs and for the most part I just did kickboxing. I kinda got into that.”
Not everyone will have the same plans during the winter holidays. Whatever it is that you are doing during the holidays, remember, this is a time for relaxing and having fun after completing the first in-person semester after over a year of online learning. School can be exhausting, so taking the time to enjoy this winter break is definitely required before going back to school.
