As I was lying down on my bed, doing my regular TikTok doom scrolling, I came across a video that caught my eye. The caption read “Your sign to make your summer bucket list,” and an idea occurred to me. Students often dislike summer because they think it gets boring, and that there is nothing to do. Add the 90-degree weather and that puts summer at the bottom of any “favorite season list,” when ranked popularly. I am personally biased, I love summer; I enjoy the heat and the long days. So when I saw this video, I thought creating a bucket list would be the perfect way to get excited about summer and take a break from the usual school routine. Here are some of my favorite activities inspired by that bucket list.
Beach Day
Earlier this month, one of the fun things I did involved going to the beach with my friends over spring break. Unlike other activities, it did not take a lot of planning. One of the perks that comes with living in SoCal is that it is not a long drive to the beach. A picnic at the beach is realistically doable even with a small budget if it were to be done potluck-style. In addition to this, beach swims are super fun and the sunsets are beautiful. So get your picnic blankets and baskets ready for this summer.
OC Fair
The Orange County Fair hosted in Costa Mesa opens on July 19 and closes on Aug. 18, 2024. With a variety of fair rides and games, it is worth visiting at least once every summer. Even though there is an entrance fee plus fair ride fees, it is a super fun experience. To keep it budget-friendly, there are rides that cost less and walking around to try different foods is always an option. Overall, fairs are a great summer activity.
Pool Day
For this one…you’re going to need to find a pool or a friend who has a pool. But once you do that, pool day will be fun. I think there are two kinds of people in this world: those who like the beach and those who like the pool. For people who hate getting sand all over their stuff, a pool day can be a recreation of beach day, but without the mess and need to travel as far. Playing with water guns, or just hanging out with your friends listening to music can be a very rewarding activity during summer.
These are just some of the many things that you can do over the summer break. I will definitely be doing these and more as I get ready for college. So, get your markers ready and make that bucket list that will make summer ‘24 yet another unforgettable one.
