Ariena Molina, otherwise referred to as Ari, was elected as Middle College High School’s ASB president in March. Now, her goals to “uplift school spirit and listen to the wants and needs of the student body” are well underway. With a promising year ahead, Molina plans to make the 2024-2025 school year successful, but how close is she to realizing her goals for the fall and beyond?
Molina and her ASB colleagues have been hard at work planning a series of activities aimed at bringing the student body together. A few activities that appeal to a wide range of student interests include football competitions, movie evenings, and an October dance. Additionally, ASB has planned ahead to ensure everyone is in a more relaxed, stress-free atmosphere. According to Molina, the ideal student experience strives to find a balance between academics, enjoyment and personal well-being.
For ASB, the October dance in particular has been a prominent focal point. This semester’s major event is coming together well.
“I’m really looking forward to the October dance because it’s going to be super fun. We’ve got this new DJ, it’s going to be super cool, and then our decorations, thanks to Mya and Jae, who are working hard to make this event possible,” Molina said.
The ASB President’s leadership philosophy places a strong emphasis on a stress free environment. In recent years, student stress has been recognized nationally with the inclusion of MCHS. Similarly, our ASB president wants to emphasize creating a stress-free environment for our students by offering resources and events to destress.
Molina describes that because of her time-consuming position, she has encountered challenges like time management regarding her academics and other responsibilities.
“We have a lot of events coming up… For example, I’ve got four events on my plate right now, so it’s about figuring out how to balance time and prepare for each one. That’s one of the biggest struggles,” Molina said, explaining the pressures of her position.
Despite these challenges, the ASB president still has faith in her team’s ability to reach their annual objectives.
“So far, I feel like we’re on pace… We haven’t stopped working at ASB. We are working hard each and every time we have a meeting,” Molina said.
Molina’s remarks demonstrate ASB’s collective passion. Her team has grown to be known for its strong work ethic, with each member contributing unique abilities and viewpoints. The team is working hard behind the scenes, to ensure that every event succeeds while keeping their main goal, which is to support the student body, in focus. ASB is dedicating the time and energy required to realize their mission, whether it is designing the October dance decorations or brainstorming new ways to reduce student stress.
It will become more evident as the autumn semester goes on whether Molina and her group can keep up this pace. ASB is definitely confronting a challenging workload, yet Molina assures that their work ethic will prevail with Molina promising further events, projects and assistance targeted at enhancing the MCHS experience.
“I already have a great feeling about our ASB, because they’ve been so great lately,” Molina said.
Achieving ASB’s goals depends on more than just the number of activities or student attendance. It is about fostering an environment in which students feel connected, supported and able to enjoy their high school experience. Based on what Molina and her team have mentioned thus far, ASB appears to be well on its way to meeting those objectives, though the coming months will reveal whether they can sustain their efforts.
