Banners welcoming everyone, decorations flying in the wind, fundraisers, assemblies, Club Rush, a Lip Sync Battle and class socials. All of ASB’s efforts this school year have made everyone feel welcome and united as a school.
Cassandra Silverstein, an English 9 and Drama teacher had recently taken on a new role, as ASB advisor. This means a fresh start for ASB. Anytime there is a big change at our school, like for example, getting our new principal, it means an opportunity to branch out to new ideas.
Being ASB advisor is a huge job. It means being responsible for all student spirit activities, clubs, fundraisers, dances and senior activities.
“I am really excited to be the ASB advisor and I like a new challenge and ASB is definitely a challenging subject,” Silverstein said.
She plans to create a positive impact to get others to join. ASB is always looking for fresh ideas, enthusiasm and school spirit.
“I would love to see more people in ASB. The challenge is that it’s a single period class and our facilities here at MCHS are limited,” Silverstein said.
Valeria Rendon, the Junior Class President for ASB has been a member for two years now and shares her experience having a new advisor.
“She is very realistic, so she’s very [focused on] making things legal. She’s strict on the laws. So, whenever we have an event, she kind of humbles us and like, tells us, ‘Oh no, we can’t do this event,’” Rendon said.
Junior Leslie Carmona has been in ASB for three years and tells us how she feels about the change.
“I think Silverstein is going to impact us in a positive way because we have already been seeing this. With our new event, which was a lip sync battle and that was a success. So, I think with her being here has made us become more united with the school,” Carmona said.
ASB President and senior, Victor Higareda, has been in ASB for three years and is looking forward to the new year along with the changes it will bring.
“The advisor change will impact ASB members positively for this year because not only is it a fresh start, but we are now building from the ground up with new ideas, and ways to better our events from previous years,” Higareda said.
