Almost every student can agree that Christmas is great. Whether it be the presence of family and friends, the gifts under the tree, the lights along the houses or the food. The food, for the most part, has remained traditional. However, a person’s favorite Christmas treat is always different.
Your favorite Christmas treat could be gingerbread or maybe even cookies. There are a variety of different Christmas treats available, so it raises the question, what is your favorite Christmas treat and why?
Senior Cesar Martinez shares his thoughts on Christmas.
“I like Christmas. One of my love languages is giving gifts. So being able to express myself with gifts during Christmas feels good. This year, I feel like I’m gonna be a lot more jolly because I’m gonna put in the effort to celebrate more. It might be the last year of Christmas with my parents before I go out to university,” Martinez said.
Martinez shares what his favorite Christmas treat is and why.
“My favorite Christmas treat is Capirotada (a traditional Mexican bread pudding). It probably has to be my favorite because it brings memories when I was younger. My uncle, he always loved to cook, and I look to cook as a passion. I’ve always learned from him, and the first ever dessert I made was Capirotada, and since that day it has been my favorite,” Martinez said.
Freshman Natasha Munir also enjoys the spirit of Christmas and shares her favorite Christmas treat which is more than one. She loves and finds comfort in them, especially mac and cheese.
“I like Christmas, because I don’t think it has to be a religious thing. I think you can just give gifts to people who you care about on a special day. My favorite holiday treat had to be either cheesecake, mac and cheese, or pumpkin pie with [whipped] cream,” Munir said.
Junior Gustavo Martinez, another fellow Christmas enjoyer, shares his thoughts on Christmas and his favorite treats.
“To me, Christmas has always been family, it’s the one time we all get to reunite together. My favorite Christmas treat is cheesecake, more specifically strawberry cheesecake. One day I got cheesecake and I really enjoyed it and ever since then, it’s something I really like,” Martinez said.
AVID 9 teacher Vanessa Villalpando also enjoys Christmas. Ms. Villalpando shares how she feels during Christmas time.
“People are in a better mood. People are more kind. I like the Christmas lights, and I like giving gifts to my goddaughter and nephews,” Villalpando said.
Villalpando’s favorite Christmas treat isn’t something over the top, but instead something honest and simple that reminds me how not everything needs to be a lot.
“I love cinnamon rolls. It’s sweet, it’s warm, and it smells really good. When I was in kindergarten, my teacher would give out the cinnamon alphabet cookies, and ever since then, I just love cinnamon treats,” Villalpando said.
