LIZBETH ORTEGA: Hi, this is Liz.
ALINA SALAS: And I’m Alina.
SALAS: We will be talking about new ICE laws and what is expected in our community while making strawberry cheesecake cups.
ORTEGA: ICE is now going to be knocking door to door. Agents are contacting specific individuals at homes as a part of targeted enforcement operations. Some interactions are being recorded and shared online, there is a large federal presence in places like Minneapolis right now.
SALAS: Okay so we are going to need one cup of whipping cream so, so one cup.
ORTEGA: Okay, how much do we need?
SALAS: Good question the whole cup?
ORTEGA: So one cup?
SALAS: Like that okay, so now we are going to whip it until it’s thick and not liquid no more.
SALAS: Um, administrative warrants and home entry ICE issued an internal memo saying agents may enter private homes using administrative warrants, instead of warrants signed by a judge, to arrest someone with a final order of removal a.k.a a deportation order. Administrative warrants are created inside ICE office and not have same legal authority of warrants, which are signed by a judge based on probable cause. Critics argue this weakens constitutional protections against unreasonable searches. Reports say ICE agents have been entering homes under this approach since mid 2025. So now we are gonna put cream cheese original into the batter.
ORTEGA: Yes.
SALAS: Um so we just.
ORTEGA: Just half?
SALAS: I
ORTEGA: Half of it?
SALAS: I think so because this is more.
ORTEGA: Half?
SALAS: Yeah so we are going to use one teaspoon of vanilla then we mix it all together until there are no more clumps.
ORTEGA: Laws passed by congress affecting ICE. This federal law instructs the Department of Homeland Security which oversees ICE to detain people charged with certain crimes, like theft or assault without bond if they’re noncitizens. It also allows states to sue the federal government if they think immigration enforcement isn’t being carried out properly.SALAS: Um, now we gotta add the, uhh powdered sugar.
ORTEGA: Yes.
SALAS: How much do we need of the powdered sugar?
ORTEGA: Two fourths.
SALAS: So we are not responsible for any messes you guys make.
ORTEGA: Yeah, ok so that is one fourth.
SALAS: Now we mix it.
ORTEGA: One more.
SALAS: One more?
ORTEGA: Another fourth.
SALAS: Another fourth my bad.
ORTEGA: Okay, okay so two fourths and now we mix.
SALAS: Now we mix it all together. One Big Beautiful Bill act, a major federal government law that includes significant funding increases for border security and immigration enforcement. With billions allocated for ICE, detention beds, and hiring more agents. Um so now we are going to put it in this bag, this is like our piping tool and then we are going to put in in one of these cups. So we are going to fill up the bags, uhm yeah so.
ORTEGA: So where is it open, okay right there.
SALAS: Um this is a two person job trust.
ORTEGA: Okay, courts and legal challenges. There are ongoing legal disputes over some of these enforcement changes, especially about administrative warrants and whether they violate constitutional protections like the 4th Amendment. A federal court in Minneapolis is reviewing whether the recent federal deployment of ICE agents and their methods may violate constitutional limits of federal power.
SALAS: Okay, now we add the gram crackers that you guys have to crush.
ORTEGA: We already pre-crushed them.
SALAS: Ok so we just add one spoonful of this, then strawberries that you have to cut to like little squares. Okay so we use a spoon and we need one spoonful of that and then we add the batter so that it’s like halfway full. Is that good yeah it has to be like a quarter full, uhm we are just going to use this. Okay so it has to be like this full, then we go back with the crackers, another spoonful like that sprinkle it on, if you need more you can add more, like that no.
ORTEGA: Yes.
SALAS: Okay, so now we add another bunch of strawberries just right on top and we’re technically done, very simple, very easy.
ORTEGA: Yes.
SALAS: So this is our podcast about new ICE laws, please be careful when you go out cuz they are really discriminating right now, so bye.
