CHRISTIAN HERRERA GOMEZ: Hello everybody and welcome to our food review. My name is Christian.
DAMIAN MONDRAGON: My name is Damian and we will be going over KABO Kitchen’s different food and reviewing them honestly.
BOTH: Let’s get right into it!
HERRERA: Okay. The first item we are going to try is our drinks. I got my standard horchata. What did you get, Damian?
MONDRAGON: Well, what I got was the ice large baklava latte.
HERRERA: Well That seems nice. All right. So this is their standard drink, and we are going to see how it tastes. Damian, What do you think about it?
MONDRAGON: I think it’s really good. What it is, is, it’s pistachio with an espresso shot, your choice of milk, a cold foam that is made in-house.
HERRERA: We chose whole milk. How would you compare it to other lattes? Do you think it’s fine? Average or a little better?
MONDRAGON: In my opinion, it’s better. When compared to Starbucks, when it comes for buck to bang. I feel this is better.
HERRERA: I see how you could see that. Well, I’m gonna go try out my signature drink, the horchata. Oh wow. That is sweet. It tastes, most horchatas I’ve tasted either are really good or don’t taste that good. This one is actually unique because this one I could feel and taste the rice in this drink. Because horchata has some rice in it.
HERRERA: It’s amazing.
HERRERA: Alright! We are going to move on to their signature Mediterranean, Mediterranean burger. Let me try it out first and see how it is.
MONDRAGON: Honestly, it’s pretty good.
HERRERA: The burger, the burger is pretty salty and tender. I like the salt for my taste, it comes with onions, your choice of cooked or uncooked, we chose cooked. I give it, I certainly do like it a little more than others, but other places like.
MONDRAGON: Burger King, McDonald’s.
HERRERA: It actually rivals In-and-Out because I’m a big In-and-Out eater and I actually like it. I think it’s actually worth it as well for the bang for the buck. Next, we are going to try the tacos. We got two different types from the ones they offer. We have the chicken taco and the carne asada taco. And it’s great. Even though we didn’t come on Tuesdays, they do have a $1.95 taco Tuesday offer that we should have taken advantage of.
MONDRAGON: That would have been better, but it’s still a pretty good deal
HERRERA: Alright lets start with the fish taco that they have. It’s a mix of fish, greens, tomatoes, and onion with a little sauce.
MONDRAGON: How’s it tasting?
HERRERA: Carried by parts of it’s sauce, the sauce that it has on it, just plain without any extra sauces is really good. And the fish just melts in your mouth with it. But they do have other sauces that we could try it out with. So let’s pick it out.
MONDRAGON: We have an orange sauce, a green sauce, and a red sauce, or better pronounced, a salsa.
HERRERA: Yes, to expand, we have pico de gallo, salsa verde, and an orange salsa, which I don’t know the name of. Let’s see how it is with the sauces!
MONDRAGON: How’s it tasting, Christian?
HERRERA: Okay, I first started with the salsa verde, it is your standard salsa verde, and I like it. Next is the pico de gallo or the red sauce, I will try.
MONDRAGON: Here we go.
HERRERA: This one is not spicy, not too much. It’s like a little tomato sauce to add little like saltiness flavor. I really like it. It is a unique take. And it is a unique take.
MONDRAGON: I believe it has cilantro, hitomate, what else do you think is in there?
HERRERA: Maybe some basil?
MONDRAGON: For sure, some salt.
HERRERA: Yeah. Last but not least, we have the third spice. It’s an orange sauce and I believe it is a spicy one. I think it’s actually pretty good. It has a kick. I thought it was gonna be extremely spicy at first when I first tried it, but then it calmed down. So I think it’s actually really good. We are done with the fish taco. Let’s move on to the carne asada taco with Damian.
MONDRAGON: Okay, so once again, as Christian already mentioned, I have the carne asada taco. I’m gonna try it now.
HERRERA: I wonder how it tastes. What do you say, Damian?
MONDRAGON: This might be better than my mom’s tacos. And that’s saying something.
HERRERA: Really?
MONDRAGON: Yes, really. You can really taste the charcoal, not in a bad way but in a good way, if that makes sense. And that was without any salsas.
HERRERA: I stole part of his taco. And, yes, I can confirm.
MONDRAGON: Okay, I’m trying la salsa verde. Salsa verde does not have too much of a kick that I was expecting. But it does give that level of spice that sometimes people really want.
HERRERA: Okay, well, try out with the pico de gallo now. Well, we’re gonna take a break to get some napkins which they do offer. There’s actually boxes of napkins here all around the restaurants. We could take them, which is really nice actually. Alright so how is it, back to the tacos? How is it?
MONDRAGON: It’s pretty good. I don’t really eat pico de gallo as often but I would learn how to make this recipe if I could steal it obviously.
HERRERA: It’s pico de gallo. I think we can make it. I’ll make him a pico de gallo, don’t worry. All right, now try the orange sauce.
MONDRAGON: That is spicy.
HERRERA: Really?
MONDRAGON: Surprisingly spicier than the salsa verde. For all those spice lovers out there.
HERRERA: I know a few.
MONDRAGON: I’m pretty sure you would enjoy this salsa.
HERRERA: Yes, we did have different takes on this but remember, the only way to find out is to truly eat it yourself. This is our food review. So this is what we believe it is. So we will be moving on to the fries! We also ordered a chicken salad as well so this is where we got our side fries from. These are our, their side seasoned fries for $2.35. I’m gonna try out.
MONDRAGON: How’s it tasting?
HERRERA: The inside really did taste like a potato and I thought it was just aplain old fry at first, but the spices that are on there, which don’t know the name of, it’s a little orange spice they have, It does really make it really well, I love it. This reminds of this other place I used to go to that had the very special spice, and I will come here for the fries if I can.
MONDRAGON: Wow, Christian, you are right, these seasoned fries are actually pretty good.
HERRERA: They have. A side salad. Some cheese and their chicken with some grilled vegetables. I believe those are cucumbers, zucchini. Okay, I did note that they claimed that they use no preservatives and everything is not processed, and they’re natural and fresh. And I’ve tried the zucchini, that tastes like a zucchini. I’m not a zucchini lover or a vegetable lover at all. And while this is not my favorite dish. I do kind of like it still because it’s a little salty and little, it’s soft. It’s soft when you bite it as well. I love like when you cook a vegetable for so long that it just becomes soft like soft carrots. This is what it’s reminding me of. Alright, I’m gonna go try out the salad first.
MONDRAGON: From the looks of it. It has lettuce, kale, tomato, and, I don’t know what that is, but it’s like a type of sauce?
HERRERA: Yes. It’s a type of sauce.
MONDRAGON: How are you liking it?
HERRERA: I prefer the zucchini more. What do you think about the salad?
MONDRAGON: It’s okay, it has this, tajin type of taste, just really salty.
HERRERA: I would pass the salad, but I am going to pass the salad because we’re going to try out the chicken next. Try it out, Damian!
MONDRAGON: I do love this chicken. Although it is a little dry. What do you think?
HERRERA: I do agree, but some people do like their chicken that way. And it was stated that it could be assumed it would be like that on the salad. Regardless, we do have our sauces to wet it, make it better. I’m not sure the proper term. But, I like it because it has the faint, the very, very faint scar, scar marks. It looks so cool.
MONDRAGON: You get that by grilling the chicken, which honestly, I believe is a great idea of cooking chicken. It gives its own different type of taste.
HERRERA: One of the best healthy alternatives. And they also did claim to be very healthy and I can very see that because everything looks really healthy and nice. I’ve been trying to lose weight and I think this is a great way, just by eating healthy, and it’s fine to indulge in this like that as long as you can show moderation.
MONDRAGON: This chicken is also served on top of some rice, which we are going to try. It certainly is different. The rice grains are thinner and longer than usual.
HERRERA: I’ve had this rice before. It’s a certain type of rice. And I did forget the name of the rice, but it still tastes as good as normal rice. I think it’s the healthier version as well. So we’re gonna add the zucchini, the chicken, rice, and salad all on one. To see how well it works together. As we don’t try every dish one at a time. We also combine it to see how it tastes.
MONDRAGON: While each individual thing is pretty great on its own, all together, it’s even better. You can really taste the grilled part of the chicken. And you combine it with the salt of the salad and the moisture of the zucchini, and it all comes together really well.
HERRERA: I agree, the salad that, the side salad actually does work well with the chicken, because you get your little tanginess with your sweetness and saltiness all in one.
HERRERA: In total, I actually did like this food place. It’s a hidden gem, and not one like I thought before, because I don’t come to many restaurants like these. But it does fight back against the majority of companies like large companies, like McDonald’s and IHOP. But I enjoy it. I enjoy it. It’s, it looks, it’s very clean and the food is great here. Oh yeah.
MONDRAGON: All together. It was a total of $41.32 and that’s pretty good and other restaurants like McDonald’s or Burger King. Altogether. It may be like $60.
HERRERA Yes, we ordered the latte, the chicken, the burger, the fries, the onions with the tacos and the horchata. Something we also take into account is that we will get a discount if we show our Sac ID, which is very helpful if you’re to save money as well. So I think it’s worth after seeing this. And I probably will come again when I have free time. Just for fun. Not for our food review. Just because I like this a lot.
MONDRAGON: Yeah, I think I would invite some of my friends too. I believe this was a good experience, it has it’s own little vibe as well. And as they’ve claimed, it’s all really healthy. What do you rate the food or all the food we’ve tasted, the restaurant out 10.
HERRERA: What a bold claim to ask, but I’d say a 9.5. Compared to everything else I had. I think this is actually a unique one, and it’s my first experience, so this might elevate it, but around 9.4 to 9.5 is around my rating. I like it. The experience was nice. The service was also really nice as well and I will come back here. I 100% will come back here as I do get my food by other places. What about you?
MONDRAGON: I rate this a nine. It is different than other places. It’s, it’s as Christian already mentioned. It has its own little flair. And again, the service was really good and pretty fast. I believe it took a couple minutes for it to be ready. And it was a pretty big meal. But that was my overall score.
HERRERA: We tried part of the dishes here at the cable kitchen, but we should also add that there is other foods as well such as another salad bowl and breakfast that they stop serving at 2 p.m. They have things like French Toast, croissant sandwiches, a pancake stack. Breakfast burrito or bowl. And they also have things like the lamb gyro wrap. And other tacos like battered fish and salmon. In case, a certain type of fish isn’t your type. And yes, they also have KABO bowls as well. But we took the plate. and for soups, they have clam chowder and a lot of sides that we did not try but are your standard sides, like chips and salsa, chips and guacamole, pita and hummus, seasoned fries, which we did have, tater tots, and rice and beans. I will come back here to try out other things and I really did like this one. So this food review was a success and I did love this one.
MONDRAGON: Another thing for all you coffee lovers out there. They have a Keen House Coffee and americano, a classic latte, classic cappuccino, and a classic mocha.
HERRERA: But if you’re banned from coffee, like me, you could also have sodas like the Coca-Cola or Jarritos that they have on the side or waters if you’re trying to be healthy.
MONDRAGON: And with that our food review on KABO Kitchen comes to an end.
HERRERA: Thank you everyone for listening to our podcast!
